Well-known jockey, Ian Mongan, has criticised the state of the polytrack surface at Lingfield. Speaking on Thursday, he said “We’ve told the clerk and those in charge but it seems to fall on deaf ears .I’ve never known kick back like it and I can seriously see a horse losing an eye.
The jockeys are fine, as we can put on 2 pairs of goggles if needed, but the horses have no protection and that’s just not fair. There’s some nice horses running here today but I’m not sure that would be the case if the trainers and owners knew what conditions are like. The main reason I’m speaking out is to tell trainers and owners to think again before having runners at this track.”
A spokesman for Lingfield said “We will carry out extra work on the track between now and the next meeting on November 11. The track is ten years old now and will be replaced at a cost of between £1 million – £2 million next summer.”
