Kauto Star secured his 4th victory in the Betfair Chase at Haydock yesterday (Saturday 19th), showing the young upstarts exactly how it should be done. The race was the 15th Grade One win for the star of the Paul Nicholls yard and came despite some commentators suggesting he should have been retired earlier in the year.
The Ruby Walsh mount gained this not inconsiderable praise from his famous trainer: “I don’t think we’ll see another like him in our lifetime. I won’t train one, that’s for sure. He’s the best of a generation”.
Against all the odds, it could be that Kauto Star now travels to Kempton on Boxing Day to try for his 5th King George win, prior to another possible attempt at the Gold Cup in March. And who’s to say he can’t win both of those again, too?!
